Facing Fake News

When looking at the photograph of the daises, my initial reactions were shock, disbelief, and curiousity.  After reading the article, not knowing much information I, probably like many others, believed that the flowers were deformed due to the nuclear disaster at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in Japan. However, with the little information that was linked with the picture, it did not have strong enough evidence for me to believe that.  There could be a million different explanations as to why the flowers have that deformity.  Besides the actual picture of the daises (which could be any natural deformities possible) there is no reliable evidence that proves to a reader that this was caused by the Nuclear Power Plant in Japan. Personally, this just seems like an unreliable source to. Try and gather information from. After searching I came to find out that scientists suspect it is a natural flower deformity, and that this is fake news.   After watching the videos on “Fake o

WikiLeaks and Whistleblowers

The whistleblowing case I chose to investigate is on a former military analyst Daniel Ellsberg.  Daniel Ellsberg leaked a top-secret Pentagon study of the U.S government rationale during the Vietnam war.  Soon after this was leaked the New York Times, The Washington Post, and other American newspapers published the Pentagon Papers.   My personal opinion on this certain whistleblowing case is that it was a big deal to leak something about war projects, however, I believe that Daniel Ellsberg was trying to protect his country by leaking this important secret.  The public needs to be aware of the government and their choices when it affects the worlds lives.  During a 1998 interview , Ellsberg said, “The public is lied to every day by the President, by his spokespeople, by his officers. If you can't handle the thought that the President lies to the public for all kinds of reasons, you couldn't stay in the government at that level.”  I truly think that Ellsberg had good intentions

Caught in Lies

I have often considered and thought about the news that I hear, see and read on a daily basis.  I also question these articles quite often, especially the ones on the internet and social media. I think this because many articles are very hard to believe, while others are falsified news, but are very believed by the public. I find it very hard to believe those big news companies would have to lie and fabricate stories such as the "Wafer Story". My reaction to these articles was surprised, and shock. Why would a journalist feel the need to lie about a story? Especially one like "Jimmy's World", how would a person make up a story like that, especially when drug problems could bring up a lot of terrible memories for some affected families that have dealt with drug abuse. I do agree with Shafer's assertion because why else would journalists feel the need to lie and make up a fabricated story if they had the ability to write one themselves.  If they had the inte
